Gosh, I don’t quite remember my first initial pen strokes but I did love anything and everything related to art, so my parents tell me. Art in general has always been throughout my life growing up and has always brought me such joy. It was common to see me just sit for hours and hours and still felt like just minutes went by.
Here is a quick story…
Since my early days, my go-to resort was simply a pencil and paper to draw anything that caught my attention. I’d watch a movie and minutes after, I’d be drawing the main characters, this was the very beginning of a long, fantastic journey that continued with me to this day. I remember watching the movie “The Mask” with Jim Carrey and right after I just simply drew his character and that was the first time my father said:
“Dude, you can actually draw so well, you should go to an art school…”
Other cartoon characters I’d draw a lot were Duck Donald, Mickey Mouse, Sonic (SEGA Game), Super Mario Brothers and many others, this was my world. It was about this time, experimenting and drawing so much, that I was introduced to an art course. My dad had talked to me about refinement on my strokes, lines and that is when it all really clicked for me.
I spent about 2 years in this course, taking the bus twice a week and really experiencing something amazing. Do you know what I did there for the first 3 months? Pencil strokes.
Let me tell you:
It sounds like a boring class right? It wasn’t. This was the foundation for everything that was to come later. I catch myself up until this day, doing strokes that are so straight that I don’t need a ruler for many drawing projects. Your sense of feel, touch, perspective and just knowing that everything has a place. It was amazing. In this course I learned about every drawing technique you can possibly imagine: pencil and pen drawing, pro sketching, oil and acrylic painting, how to draw with crayons, colored pencils, pastels and charcoal. This gave me a good perspective and knowledge about the different types of tools we can use, different paper for different drawing techniques etc…
Here are some drawings from the early days…
Since then, I have been exposed to many different creative projects. I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to know many different artists and their craft, experiment different tools, travel the world and continue my artist journey.
Fruits of Yesterday’s Investment
Even though art is in fact the foundation of it all, I have done so much work digitally as well. From hand drawings to digital graphic design followed by website designs and even designs of user experience for softwares… you can find my UI/UX profile by clicking here. I have also developed a love for photography which you can find it here.
Today I reside in Tallahassee, Florida with my wife and 3 children, Joshua, Isabel and Anna and you will always find me designing, either for client’s or for myself.
